Description
Late Summer Radiance – Flowers Until the First Frost
Orange cosmos (Cosmos sulphureus), also known as sulphur cosmos, is an annual summer flower with wild origins in Mexico and the southern United States. Its brilliantly vivid blooms in shades of yellow, orange, and copper appear from June and often persist until the first frost.
The plant is especially striking when planted in larger groups – its cheerful appearance adds warm bursts of colour to flower beds or naturalistic gardens. The flowers reliably attract bees, bumblebees, and other pollinators, and continue to provide a valuable food source into late autumn, when many other plants have already finished flowering.
Orange cosmos also makes an excellent cut flower: long-lasting, easy to arrange, and stimulated to produce more blooms when regularly cut – the more you harvest, the more flowers follow. Its finely divided foliage and sturdy stems also make it a favourite for late summer bouquets.
