Classic Blue Favourite with Natural Charm
‘Blue Bell’ Field Larkspur (Consolida ajacis) is an annual summer flower bearing upright, spire-like flower spikes in a clear, medium cornflower blue. This variety adds lightness and vertical structure to flower beds, wildflower strips and cottage-style gardens, and is among the most attractive wildflower species for naturalistic cultivation.
Like all types of Annual Larkspur – also known as Field Larkspur – ‘Blue Bell’ has a long horticultural tradition. Originally part of Europe’s classic arable field flora, this species has become rare in the wild, but is now enjoying a well-deserved revival in pollinator-friendly gardens and flowering strips. Its many individual blooms provide an abundant nectar source for wild bees, bumblebees and other pollinators.
‘Blue Bell’ also makes an excellent cut flower. The long, straight stems with their vivid blue blooms bring a fresh, clear and elegant touch to mixed summer bouquets.
