Description
Tropical Heat with a Fruity Citrus Profile
The Trinidad Scorpion Yellow is one of the hottest chilli varieties in the world, reaching up to 1,200,000 Scoville heat units. Its bright yellow fruits feature the signature, pointed shape reminiscent of a scorpion’s tail – hence the name. Despite its intense heat, it surprises with a fruity, lemon-like flavour that lends itself perfectly to salsas, chutneys and hot sauces.
The plants grow bushy and compact (approx. 70–90?cm) and are well-suited for annual cultivation outdoors as well as perennial container growing. Especially in the second year, the harvest tends to be particularly abundant – we therefore recommend overwintering indoors or in a greenhouse. With sufficient warmth and light, it can also thrive as a year-round houseplant.

Sowing and Care of Capsicum chinense
- Sowing time: From January to March indoors
- Germination: At a constant 24?°C; press seeds in only lightly – warmth is crucial
- Position: Sunny, warm, and sheltered; suitable for indoors, greenhouses or outdoor beds
- Soil: Loose, nutrient-rich and humus-rich
- Feeding: Regular nitrogen feed – chillies are heavy feeders
- Cultivation: Grown as an annual in borders or as a perennial in containers with overwintering
A heated propagator is highly recommended for germination. Seeds typically sprout within 7–14 days. After pricking out, plants require plenty of light and consistently warm conditions. With good care, ‘Trinidad Scorpion Yellow’ produces an abundance of fiery, aromatic fruits.
Note: Due to its extreme heat, handle fruits with care – always wear gloves!
