Description
A Bavarian Pepper Legend with Flavour and Heritage
The 'Roter Augsburger' is a traditional open-pollinated sweet pepper from southern Germany and is considered one of the oldest regionally cultivated pepper varieties in the country. Originally grown in cottage gardens around Augsburg, it remains valued today for its remarkable resilience and early ripening. Its elongated, conical fruits ripen to a vibrant red and offer a pleasantly sweet, fruity flavour – entirely without heat. A characteristic feature of this variety is its compact growth habit, making it an ideal choice for smaller gardens or container growing. 'Roter Augsburger' is known for its excellent stability, tolerance to cooler conditions, and weather resistance – traits that make it especially well suited to cultivation in more challenging climates. Its intense flavour and tender skin make it a versatile ingredient for salads, antipasti, or raw dishes.
