Description
Sweetcorn Delight in a Small Space
Sweetcorn 'Dwarf Golden' (Zea mays) is a particularly compact variety that’s perfect for small gardens or raised beds. Compared to traditional sweetcorn varieties, this plant stays much shorter (around 1 to 1.5 metres tall), requiring less space. Despite its modest height, it produces vigorous plants with aromatic, golden-yellow cobs that are a real treat – whether freshly picked or grilled.
Maize is an ancient crop that originates from Central America, where it was cultivated by the Maya and Aztecs centuries ago. With 'Dwarf Golden', you can grow this historic grain in your own garden – in a form that’s especially gardener-friendly and reliably delivers sweet, flavourful harvests.

Sowing & Care of Sweetcorn 'Dwarf Golden'
Sow directly outdoors from mid-May, once the soil has warmed sufficiently, or start indoors from April as an early crop. Sow seeds 2–3 cm deep in rows spaced 30–40 cm apart. Sweetcorn grows best in blocks rather than single rows, as this ensures optimal pollination. Choose a sunny location with humus-rich, well-drained soil. During the growing season, sweetcorn requires plenty of water and benefits from consistent watering, especially while the cobs are forming. Harvest begins from August, when the kernels are plump and golden yellow. Thanks to its compact growth, 'Dwarf Golden' is also well suited to smaller spaces or large containers, making it an easy-to-grow variety for the home garden.
