Piments et poivrons

Prétendument, les piments rouges ont été utilisés comme condiment et épice pour plus de 8000 ans par les habitants de l'Amérique latine. Au début, les piments sauvages (qui surviennent encore aujourd'hui et vont par le nom de "Tepin Chili") ont été collectés, alors les plantes ont été cultivées et une gamme incroyable de variétés a commencé à développer.

Cette riche histoire de sélection se traduit non seulement dans diverses noms de variétés, mais également des noms différents pour la forme traitée de piments, selon âcreté, l'origine ou de l'utilisation: le pepperoni, le paprika, le chili, le piment, pimiento, le poivre de cayenne, isot, poudre de paprika, pul biber, harissa, merkén, sambal oelek, tabasco - et beaucoup plus.

Contrairement à la plupart des épices avec origine dans des pays tropicaux, les piments peuvent être cultivés même en Europe centrale. En plus, les piments rouges sont des plantes d'intérieur très décoratives.
